I have always loved the classic monster movies. Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, etc. So, why not try and paint them right??? I was experimenting in my studio the other day and came up with this painting. I say experiment because it is done in a style that I have never done or seen anyone do. maybe for good reason :-)
This painting combines drawing, acrylic airbrushing, colored pencil, and then followed by oil painting on top of all of that. Let's just say it was a process!!! Long story short, it was fun to do and I was kinda pleased with how it cam out considering I was not sure even what I was doing. Sometimes that is the funnest kind of painting to do.

Wedding Carriage
Sorry it has been so long since I have posted anything but life just seems to keep getting in the way. I will try and do better in the future!
Here is one of my latest oil paintings I did for a friend. I was commissioned by her to do a painting of her daughters wedding horse drawn carriage. The final painting measures only 12x12 inches and I wanted it to have a kinda loose impressionistic feel to it but still keep it tight enough to have a sense of realism to it as well.

Ron Paul Drew Strewzan Style!
This is another attempt at doing Ron Paul from the same sketch I used on the other one. I like the results of this one much more and I enjoyed the process of doing this one as well. I think it is a much better likeness and I love the loose sketchy feeling. I borrowed the technique to do this one from famous poster illustrator Drew Strewzan. Drew may be the most famous illustrator working today and he is known worldwide for his more than 300 movie posters he has illustrated such as Star wars, Harry Potter, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc. I am and have always been a huge fan of his work. Thanks Drew for all of the inspiration!!!

Ernie
This is an illustration I did this week of a good friend of mine named Ernie. He was a graphic designer for 36 years and is one of the finest people I have ever met. He asked me if I would do a caricature of him and I was honored to do so. He was and is a great friend who has taught me the art of being humble, kind, prepared, and most of all a Christian.
This was done my normal way... Start with a good photo for reference, do a pencil sketch, scan it in, and finished in Photoshop using my trusty Wacom 21 inch Cintiq.

Ron Paul Martian
Prismacolor sketch of Ron Paul. I first put antenna on him because he seems as close to a martian as anybody I have ever heard speak.

Ron Paul is from Mars
This is what I do on Friday nights. I sit at home and doodle and come up with characters. Fortunately for me, Ron Paul is already a character so he just kinda drew himself.
This was a fun piece to do simply because he has such an animated cartoon face to begin with. I started the sketch with a light brown Prismacolor pencil. I then scanned it into Photoshop where I took it to near completion in a sepia tone. I then added color to the final piece after I was pleased with all the values in his face.
